The Zeng(曾) and Qiu(邱)

In old time, Qiu is often written as “邱”or “丘”. The name was change from “丘”to “邱”in the year1725 when the Qing Dynasty (清) Emperor crowned Confucious as Ultimate Holly One (至圣). In addition, he ordered the Qiu(丘) family to change their name to “邱”as “丘”was confucious name. When the Qing Dynasty ended, some of the Qiu family members did change their family name back to”丘” but many continue to use “邱”.

The origin of Qiu is more complicated the Zeng(曾), there are generally 3 different version of the story:

1、The Qiu family is originated from the family Jiang”姜”。During the Empire of Zhou”西周”，the Minister Lu Shang ”吕尚”from the family Jiang assisted the emperor to conquer the Shang “商” and was given the land at Qi “齐”. He then creates the kingdom Qi “齐国”, and made “Yin Qiu” “营丘”as the capital。Some of his descendant used the name of the land as their family name. In history, they are usually known as the True Origin of Qiu “丘姓正宗”.

2、There is another saying that the name came from places that people leave. Some said that in all countrymen of Chen Kingdom”陈国” which was located at Wan Qiu “宛丘”, and Zhu Kingdom “邾国” which is located at Ruo Qiu “弱丘”, use Qiu "丘"as their family name.

3、The name were said to be commonly used by the minority tribe. They simplify their name from name such as You Qiu”有丘氏”, Qiu Lin“丘林氏”,Qiu Dun”丘敦氏”to “丘”.

The link between Zeng and Qiu started in Fujian. After the Zeng family shifted to Fujian, Zeng Gong Liang's (曾公亮) grandson Zeng Ming曾明，was adopted by the Qiu “丘”family. His descendant continues to recognize Zeng Zi as their ancestor. That branch of Qiu family also uses the same generation name used by the Zeng family from Long Shang. Till now, the members of the two families from Fujian still treat each other as one family.

The Qiu family from Long Shan “龙山”have grown over the years and many have migrated to South East Asia including Singapore, Malaysia, Philippine and Indonesia. Despite the fact that they have leaved home, the tie between the two families remain strong in these foreign countries. They have setup many organisations in these places such as Singapore Chan Khoo Kong Huan, Malaysia Sarawak Chan Khoo Association, and Philippine Chan Khoo Association.

龙山与邱的关系

邱姓有时也与丘姓通用。这个家族原本大多是以"丘"（古时的"丘"与"邱"通用）为姓的，清朝雍正三年（1725年），雍正皇帝颁发诏谕指示，孔子是至圣，孔子名“丘”，为避讳孔子的名号，而下令把"丘"一律改为"邱"姓。民国初，邱逢甲倡议复丘姓本字，虽闽、粤邱姓族人纷纷响应，但仍有不少人继续沿用邱字。这造成现在的邱姓多过丘姓人士的现象。

邱姓的来源较为复杂，其中说法有三：

1、出自姜姓，为姜太公的后裔。西周初年，太师吕尚（姜姓，吕氏，名望）因辅佐武王灭商有功，被封于齐，建齐国，都营丘（今山东淄博市东北旧临淄），号称齐太公，俗称姜太公。其子孙中后有以地为氏的，称为丘氏。史称丘姓正宗。
2、出自妫姓，以地为氏。春秋时，陈国（开国君主是胡公满）有宛丘，邾国（传为颛顼后裔挟所建，曹姓）有弱丘，居者皆以"丘"为氏。
3、出自他族改姓。如汉代少数民族乌桓族有丘氏。南北朝时，北魏孝文帝迁都洛阳后，有鲜卑族复姓丘林氏、丘敦氏改为汉字单姓丘氏。

曾邱的关系发生于福建。曾族由延世公传入福建龙闽后，曾公亮第十世孙曾明，字永在，号迁荣，入赘福建海澄新安邱家。生二子。其后代均奉宗圣公为一派始祖，舆龙山曾姓共用相同昭穆。至今福建，海澄一带的曾邱两姓不通婚。

龙山邱氏的后世繁盛，后来许多也迁移到东南亚如新加坡，马来西亚，菲例滨，印尼等国。其中许多曾与邱的族人仍然保留密切的联系，如新加坡的曾邱公会，马来西亚的砂铹越曾丘(邱)公会与菲律宾的曾丘总会便是一个很好的例子。

曾姓起源

曾姓出自姒姓，因封国名称而来的姓氏，

相传姒姓出自上古帝王夏禹，

夏禹的儿子“启”建立了夏朝，

先后发生了后羿和寒浞二人相继夺权事件，

後来被“启”的玄孙少康消灭，恢复夏朝的统治，

这时少康又封幼子曲烈於，曲烈的子孙便在地发展繁衍，

至到被近邻茗国入侵灭亡，亡国後，

太子巫逃亡鲁国为卿士，太子巫为了记念故国，

於是将原来国名中表示家园的邑旁去掉，

成为曾姓。

曾丘同宗渊源考

曾丘一家，据晋江龙山曾氏足谱载，海澄新安者，新安肇祖坟镌云：有宋曾公亮 公，昭文殿大学士，宣靖太师鲁国公，公亮 公十四世孙曰“明”字“永在”号“荣迁”，入赘福建省海澄新安丘家，娶苏氏为继室，生二子曰：大发，正发。是为新安丘姓肇基祖，後此繁衍无穷，子孙均奉宗圣公(即曾子)为一派祖，故与龙山曾姓同一宗派，因此海澄新安丘氏姓乃海内外衍派子孙，实与曾姓同宗，南洋各地，均有曾丘联宗之组织，以表曾丘一家。
